Rice turns down two contract offers
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/07/01/exclusive-declan-rice-turns-two-west-ham-contract-offers/

England star Declan Rice has put Manchester United and Chelsea on alert after it emerged he has turned down two new contract offers from West Ham United.

And Rice is expected to reject any more imminent attempts to extend his West Ham deal, as he waits to see whether United or Chelsea firm up their interest in him with a bid.

United are big admirers of Rice, who gets on well with his England team-mate Harry Maguire, and could try to tempt West Ham by including Jesse Lingard as part of a bid.

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel is understood to be a fan of the player the club released as a 14-year-old and Manchester City have also shown an interest in Rice. But, having re-signed Fernandinho on a one-year contract, the Premier League champions would be more likely to make a bid next summer.

West Ham value Rice at around £100million, but the midfielder would want to be informed of any offers the club receive for him and would most likely be disappointed if bids in the region of £60m were turned down given he did not cost the Hammers anything.

Rice is currently on England duty at the European Championships and has been one of the star performers of manager Gareth Southgate’s team.

His displays in the centre of midfield, the latest of which came against Germany at Wembley, have strengthened the belief that Rice could comfortably play for a Champions League club.

Rice saw his close friend Mason Mount win the Champions League with Chelsea last season and he is currently in an England squad full of title winners, both in the Premier League and abroad.

Even 17-year-old Jude Bellingham has played in the Champions League for Borussia Dortmund and Rice is keen to test himself at the highest level in club football as quickly as possible and realise his main ambition of winning silverware.

Rice is currently outside the top five earners at West Ham and is one of the lowest earners in Southgate’s England squad.

West Ham have twice offered him significant wage increases, but the salary they would be able to pay him is still much lower than he could earn elsewhere.

And the offers are also believed to have been less than what some of the previous highest paid players at West Ham have earned, although money is not thought to be the main reason for Rice rejecting the club’s offers.

Despite the fact West Ham enjoyed an excellent season and qualified for the Europa League, with Rice often wearing the captain’s armband, there are concerns over how much money manager David Moyes will have to improve the squad.

And with the added burden of having to try to combine a Premier League season with a European campaign, West Ham’s squad could be stretched to its limits.

Rice’s current contract has three years, plus the option of an extra 12 months to run, but West Ham will be mindful that his value will start to drop when he gets closer to the final two years of his deal.

Former Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard recommended Rice to the Blues last summer, but the club spent the majority of their transfer budget on Kai Havertz and Timo Werner.

Chelsea are in the market for a striker this summer, but Tuchel would also like to add a new midfielder, with Rice among his top targets, and a right-sided player to his squad.

United have agreed the signing of Rice’s England team-mate Jadon Sancho, but are also interested in the West Ham star and could offer Lingard as part of a bid.

Lingard spent six successful months on loan at West Ham, but the club could struggle to afford a permanent deal for the winger which may encourage United to try to offer the 28-year-old as part of a bid for Rice.

Rice is currently focused on trying to help England into the semi-finals of the European Championships by beating Ukraine in Rome on Saturday night.

And his reputation among the top clubs in the Premier League and Europe will only increase the further England progress and the more Rice impresses.

I'd certainly be intrigued to know if he would have any interest in Chelsea if Mount wasn't there. Club lets him go as a youngster, probably breaks his heart, why would you go back there bar your best mate being there and £££££££'s of course!

No way will Rice remain at the club. He is far too good for West ham.

If we get another season from him that will be a fantastic result for us.

Wish him well - he's been magnificent for us.

It’s so odd when grown ups start to get upset that people want to earn as much money as possible. Genuine question - how many of you would turn down double your salary out of loyalty for you current employer? And if so, why?

Football is forever and we will have new players

I’ve since had it confirmed to me that the information I shared regarding Declan’s offer compared to other players currently at the club was inaccurate. Let’s hope an agreement can be reached soon ⚒

Totally agree but with all that

Unfortunately loyalty is very rare in football these days due to the money in it and greed

West Ham is not currently in a position to pay 200k a week for a defensive midfielder

The best solution if this is the truth is to get as much as we can for him, but please not to Chelsea or man u ffs

Yep our wonderful owners have taken every opportunity to increase their brands standing they are now clearly the hinderance to it progressing any further……will they do their utmost to hand it onto owners who can complete the job?….will they fuck…..it’s ‘their brand’ now and their egos won’t let them do the right thing so they will now be cunts to our best players……

If Rice goes this summer, in my eyes he will forever then be a judas. He has done nothing for us yet..I want 2 more seasons out of him so we see a smidgen of reward from our academy teachings. To go this summer will mean he was a complete waste of time unless we get 100million.
Most will disagree I'm sure but I'm all about loyalty. I leave finances to the board but I want 100% effort and maximum loyalty or u can fuck off and won't have any pat on the back from.me.

He signed a new contract last year and now he wants more. Let’s say he gets what he wants and then next season he’ll demand more. Greedy fucker. He’ll leave within the next couple of seasons anyway.

If the euros weren’t on this year he wouldn’t be asking for more money!!

Exactly this, ain’t a Sullivan supporter but most of footballs fucked money wise, the fellas on decent money for a 22yr old, fuck the greedy cunt off if he don’t like it

Fwiw, the club says the Ukrainian is not on 115k a week, and that it's around 70.

I remember not so long ago the owners were getting slated for not paying Lanzini what he wants and for not getting his new deal wrapped up quickly, and look how that turned out.

Re: Rice turns down two contract offers
If I was him, no way would I sign unless I was comfortably the highest paid player. He effectively has a four year deal remaining, he is entitled to see that out the same way the club is entitled to use it as a bargaining chip.

There is no panic here. With 4 years left, the club holds all the cards.

Here ladies and gentlemen we have a prime example of what Sullivan wants:

iphammer 2:15 Sat Jul 3

This is why he puts out that Rice has turned down a contract offer, it’s probably why the cunt made it in the first place.

Consider the scenario that we’re fucking skint (we are) and Sullivan needs to sell. The squad is paper thin and got a few wasters on big big money in it.

So, your hero offers Rice less than what Yarmalenko who plays about 20 mins a month gets, Rice rightly rejects it.

Sullivan then sells a pissed off Rice but has sewn a seed that the player was unhappy. He wasn’t until Sullivan started pissing him off.

You lapdogs gobble it up and blame the player.

Re: Rice turns down two contract offers
Quite.

Just hope he signs in the next couple of weeks and all this shit doesn't disrupt pre-season.

He's captain now, and playing for England and in Europe next season. This club has given him a HUGE amount. He should want a better deal, sure, but also show some loyalty.

In any job, if someone’s doing a really good job, they’re going to ask for more money to do it. Especially if there are others around them doing far less for a lot more money. Rice knows his worth and he would be a moron not to get himself the best deal possible.

Re: Rice turns down two contract offers
I suspect the main driver here will be whether or not Sullivan will/can fund the club into Europe over this coming season; no point in him staying if the rest of the squad are Championship level.
